It was clear they had “intent to harm” in mind. So why weren’t they arrested? I thought throwing harmful “objects” from an overpass was a do-not-pass-go, go-directly-to-jail offense?

This is the sort of thug activity we can expect to see more of under an Obama administration. Guarantee ya.

This is attempted murder. There have been several motorists killed by kids who dropped rocks or concrete chunks off of bridges onto windshields.

It’s just been a miracle so far that it hasn’t happened. I commend the police because if I were a policeman I would be sending the punks to hospitals, or the morgue, by the truck loads.

If this is indeed our future, should make for some interesting target practice.

  39. Questionable on September 2, 2008 6:38 pm

No video evidence of these alleged acts are provided. How can you consider this story reliable?

Contrast this with the copious and shocking video evidence of police violence against the vast majority of peaceful protestors. And this, even after the deplorable “pre-emptive strikes” against journalists who had come to the convention.

  40. Evidence Required on September 4, 2008 10:44 am

Am I missing something? The only evidence I can make out from that video is that something that looks like a sandbag hit the top of the bus. Everything else is conjecture. There could be myriads of explanations, everything from the simplest one, that a sandbag fell on the bus from an overpass. How can people assume that there’s a concerted plan to attack Republicans on their way to the Excel Center by “anarchists” and “Obama supporters” from something as simple as an object hitting the top of the bus that appears to be a sandbag? I don’t get it, am I missing some evidence that most people on here are privy to? I did a search and came up with nothing. Seems like conservatives always have an aversion to evidence.

There’s a lot of gray area. Do conservatives know what gray area is or do they see everything in strictly black or white?

Also, even if it was proven that somebody threw the sandbag on the bus that happened to be part of a group that happened to be Democrats, saying Democrats attacked the bus is like saying Republicans bomb abortion clinics. The conclusion does not logically follow.

I don’t know, would you guys label abortion clinic bombers as anarchists, or are anarchists only people that don’t agree with your specific viewpoints?

  41. Oh Come On on September 5, 2008 12:14 pm

Evidence Required - You’re kidding, right? These people have labeled themselves anarchists! Don’t you read the paper, for crying out loud? Even the main stream media has shown these people - NOT doing these hateful, harmful, ILLEGAL, things, but at the convention in protest.

All you saw was “something that looked like a sandbag hit the top of the bus”? How about the sandbag that hit in front of the bus, behind the first bus? Oh, two sandbags must have slipped out of their hands…. you know, they were just prepared in case it rained really hard…. wouldn’t want to be flooded out.

How can you rationalize bad behavior, regardless of who perpetrates it? Someone endangered the lives of people (in Nebraska, someone was killed by a person dropping cement blocks off an overpass) and all you have to say is shame on people for calling them anarchists?

Geez! What a hoot that is.

  42. Molly Pedersen on September 7, 2008 5:35 pm

“These people” (who?) “have labelled themselves” (have they? who have?) “anarchists.”

This seriously smells like false flag / black propaganda. Either these people are deliberately lying, or someone has made use of them in order to create this story.

    1. No source is mentioned for the ‘information’ that the bags were thrown by anarchists or protesters of any sort. Nowhere on the video is there any concrete evidence to support this claim. If the people stayed inside the bus through the incident, how would they know who were on top of the bridge?

    2. The picture at http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com shows a bridge with u.s. flags and patriotic peace slogans attached to it. Are we supposed to believe this is the bridge where the incident happened? Is this picture presented as ‘evidence’ of the ‘anarchists’, or is it just a suggestive illustration in support of the propaganda? Last time I checked, anarchists - who would be the last to show nationalist symbols instead of their black - were fiercely criticizing patriotic argumentation and the liberal peace movement.

    3. Nowhere on the video do we see any physical evidence on the impact. We see a few looks towards the roof of the bus, and we hear that someone is about to take a look. Pretty weak for ‘evidence’.

But let’s suppose the persons interviewed are not deliberately lying for propaganda purposes, let’s suppose they are sincere. Let’s even suppose some official authority had told them these were ‘anarchists’ throwing the bags. And let’s also assume that the people in the bus had seen black clad protesters and anarchist symbols on the bridge. In this case I would suggest the possibility that this was the work of agents provocateurs.

For instance, in the 70’s, several terrorist attacks were carried out in Europe by neo-facists, during the CIA supported ‘Operation Gladio’. Most famous of these cases is the bombing of Bologna railway station in the beginning of the 80’s, which is still ‘known’ to be the work of left-wing Brigade Rosso. However, two neo-fascist were found guilty of the bombing in a trial in the 90’s. The neo-fascist tendency today is known to enjoy considerable support within the police forces in the US as well as in Europe.

Compared to false flag attacks of that magnitude, this incident is of course pretty minor. That also means that it would be way easier to carry out, and thus more probably the case. The intention of Operation Gladio was to represent revolutionary movements as a threat to ordinary working people (which they de facto were not) and encourage working people to identify with the hierarchical structures the revolutionaries were criticizing. This is also the case with this video.

Why am I so suspicious of this? As an anarchist, I can assure you that even if anarchists are not opposed to using violence (no State is), they do *not* use violence indiscriminately against ordinary working people in this manner (as States are very well known to do). This whole story is fundamentally flawed in so many ways, it almost certainly has to be written by someone who is really unaware of anarchist politics and ethics.

  43. Jeebus on September 19, 2008 8:04 am

Dayum…the pearl-clutchers are out in force today! Let me ask you Wise Sages a simple question…do you morons even know what an anarchist is? If you did, you wouldn’t be calling these idiots Obama supporters. You guys sure do enjoy the “helpless” victim role.
Well…get used to it, cuz it’s gonna suck for you come November.

  44. Adam on October 11, 2008 4:47 pm

The trolls are out in full force here!
Molly, that happened to at least two or three of the buses, not just one, and was corroborated by numerous other witnesses.
btw, the agents provocateurs argument is too laughable for words. You’d say anything to get your fellow anarchists off the hook and shift blame elsewhere, I’m surprised you didn’t claim that the people on the buses had it coming!. Agents provocateurs’ strategies in situations like this are more along the lines of mixing in with groups of protestors and egging them on to commit violent acts (i.e. convincing a protestor to throw a brick through a window), not doing them on their own. You have even less proof of your “Agents Provocateurs” theory than we have that it was anarchists doing it. Then again, people like you tend to believe all kinds of deranged conspiracy theories.
As for why there was no video of the attack happening, I’d imagine that was because it was so sudden. The person with the camera and others on the bus were expecting a peaceful trip to the convention, they had no idea a bunch of anarchist meth- heads were about to try and kill them until the bags hit.
“can assure you that even if anarchists are not opposed to using violence (no State is), they do *not* use violence indiscriminately against ordinary working people in this manner (as States are very well known to do).”
I’ve GOTTA call B.S. on that. There were countless other occasions of anarchist vermin at the convention from groups like the RNC Welcoming Committee using violence indiscriminately against ordinary working people (i.e. a photo of a group of them ganging up on and beating a man for the crime of being a Republican).

  45. Howard on October 17, 2008 7:33 pm

An American citizen should be able to ask Obama
a question, without being crucified by the Obama campaign.
Obama is ahead in the polls, but are the polls
a realistic reflection of what will actually happen
in the voting booth? Obama is outspending McCain
3 to one … He has 90% of the media in his pocket
… he has 98% of the black vote … he has voter fraud
on his side, with groups like Acorn … and yet the
election is still close. So far, all the conclusions by all the
pundits are totally based upon POLLS. Not a single actual vote
has been cast yet. Obama supporters gush at how
well their man has done in the debates, which proves
once again that Obama is a good debater and a good
speaker. It doesn’t say anything about his character,
judgement, or what kind of a leader he would be.
I still would rather trust a man who would not sell out
his fellow prisoners, even during 5 years of torture,
than to trust a man who betrayed a 20 year friendship,
for personal ambition. And … regarding this election,
until people actually vote … it ain’t over till it’s over
