(via LGF Spinoff Links) This is a very interesting post from Daily Kos that has a lesson for the Republicans;
All references to the assault weapons ban have disappeared from change.gov
If you, like me, were dismayed about Obama’s support for the Assault Weapons Ban, and feared an NRA-driven election loss, you might find this interesting.
All references to the Assault Weapons Ban have disappeared from Obama’s site, change.gov.

They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Interestingly, the only thing worse for Republicans than an Socialist-Progressive Obama presidency, is a centrist-moderate Obama presidency. I would prefer a centrist-moderate Obama presidency, but I am not holding my breath.
The lesson for Republicans is to consider a tactical modification to their position on at least one of their hot button issues which tend to alienate more people than they rally.
If the Republicans want to win elections, they need to re-brand as the party of freedom. Freedom of speech (anti-”fairness doctrine”). Freedom from over taxation (anti-redistribution of wealth). Freedom from Progressive-Socialism (anti-socialized medicine and socialized education). Freedom from the Nanny State (anti- political correctness). Champions of free market economics, despite the cyclical down sides.
Do that, and Republicans might win in 2010, and 2012.
