Special Election In Illinois?

February 26, 2009

There is movement in Illinois to force Roland Burris into an early special election. But there is pessimism in the capitol regarding the chances:

It’s unclear how much traction an effort to set a new election date would gain. Last week, in calling on Burris to resign, Gov. Pat Quinn said he feared the matter would end up in court. And Democrats have brought up the millions of dollars it would take to hold a special election—money the state doesn’t have when its two-year budget hole could be $9 billion or more.

You gotta love that argument. Because of Democrat fiscal malfeasance, Illinois cannot afford to conduct an election by the people for the people, in accordance with their state constitution! Is that really the line they want to take?

And in related news:

The son of embattled Sen. Roland Burris is a federal tax deadbeat who landed a $75,000-a-year state job under former Gov. Rod Blagojevich five months ago, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
