Rosanna Pulido is the Republican candidate for Congress to replace Democrat Rahm Emanuel. She is the change candidate. Just take a look at her stance on the right of a woman to own a gun!
Come on folks. You would think that self defense is a Basic human right! I had the privilege of being on duty as a police dispatcher on Dec 29, 2003. I worked in a suburb that shared the same radio frequency with the Wilmette Police Department. That was the night a gentlemen named Hal Demar was robbed for the 2nd time in 24 hours. The first night the burglar stole the keys and Hal’s car. The second night Hal shot the intruder. You or I would have done the same. But Demar got treated like a criminal for taking the common sense action of protecting his wife, children and private property.
DeMar blasted local officials in a letter published by the Chicago Sun-Times: “Until you are shocked by a piercing alarm in the middle of the night and met in your kitchen by a masked invader as your children shudder in their beds, until you confront that very real nightmare, please don’t suggest that some village trustee knows better and he/she can effectively task the police to protect your family from the miscreants that this society has produced.”
As a woman, I know a gun is a great equalizer. Women in other states have the right and luxury of having “Conceal and Carry.” But not in Illinois. Women here are punished for living here by being denied their constitutional right to defend themselves.
On the Progressive Democrat side, the candidate is Mike Quigley. He supports socialized medicine, and also stakes a claim of support for women.
A Leader on Women’s Issues: Mike Quigley was the leading advocate on the Cook County Board for a new Domestic Violence Courthouse that would be safe for women and their children. His efforts led to the construction of the new Cook County Domestic Violence Courthouse, which has been open since 2005.
As a strong supporter of women’s reproductive rights, Mike Quigley has fought for increased access to reproductive health care for all women throughout the county, regardless of their means.
He has also secured additional county funding to provide enhanced medical and legal services for rape victims at Stroger Hospital.
While supporting a woman’s reproductive rights is a very good thing, using the issue to fund socialized medicine is nefarious.
Also, as for that “Domestic Violence Courthouse that would be safe for women and their children” and the “enhanced medical and legal services for rape victims”, that’s all well and good, but wouldn’t it also be useful to help people better prepare to defend themselves rather than only helping them AFTER they have been beaten or raped?
