Chicago Residents Fill Their Own Potholes!

April 8, 2009

[via Chicago Breaking News]

What to do when there are potholes on your street and the city won’t pave them fast enough?

Patch them yourself.

That’s what a West Side organization did today. Residents from the Austin neighborhood bought four bags of Quikrete from Home Depot for $50 and used shovels, rakes and a roller to fill about seven holes on the 4800 block of West Van Buren Street.
“The city’s not doing it so residents need to take the matter into their own hands,” said Elce Redmond, organizer with the South Austin Coalition.

Hope and change. This sad situation did not develop overnight. This is the result of long term systemic corruption and mismanagement. If only President Obama and his brand of Democrat politics could have had an influence in this region sooner.

Kudos to the South Austin Coalition for getting the job done.

They need to send the city a bill for the repairs. And use union rates for everybody who was there, even the ones who didn’t do the actual work, just like in the real world.
