Burris Defense: Blame The People Who Asked The Wrong Questions!

May 28, 2009

[via Chicago Breaking News]

Paraphrasing Roland Burris: ‘Don’t blame me for being a lying scumbag. Blame the people who didn’t ask me the right questions which would have revealed I am a lying scumbag.’

In the old days, this guy would be tarred and feathered.

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris today said he shouldn’t be blamed for any lack of candor while under oath earlier this year before a special Illinois House panel about his appointment to the seat because his duty was only to answer the questions posed by the committee members and nothing more..[READ MORE]

Here is an excerpt of the transcript of the testimony Burris gave:

Durkin: At any time were you directly or indirectly aware of a quid pro quo with the governor for the appointment of this vacant Senate seat?

Burris: No sir.

Durkin: Ok. If you were aware of a quid pro quo, what would you have done?

Burris: Rep. Durkin, knowing my ethics, I would not participate in anybody’s quid pro quo. I’ve been in government for 20 years and never participated in anybody’s quid pro quo.

Now read the transcript of the phone call the Feds taped:

In the transcript, Burris ponders ways that he could help with fundraising while avoiding the appearance that “if I do get appointed that means I bought it.” At the same time, he says in the transcript that if he doesn’t get the seat, the people who he would be raising money to give to Blagojevich are going to wonder, “What’s that all about, Roland.”

Burris, in the transcript, first says he could write Blagojevich a check but then thinks about giving money through his law firm and that he “might be able to do this in the name of Tim Wright.” Wright, Burris said, “is not looking for an appointment, okay?”

He was conspiring to launder money with the former governor’s brother. What was Roland Burris laundering money for if not to buy something with that money?

If there was no quid pro quo to Burris’ knowledge, why was he trying to launder campaign contributions???

And according to Burris, he’s not a liar because the legislators never asked him point blank, “did you ever try to launder campaign contributions?”

Roland Burris is a liar.

Isn’t this par for the course in Illinois? It is ALWAYS someone else’s fault!
Our fearless leader practices this on a daily basis.
