CHICAGO — Community activists here are calling on President Barack Obama to address inner-city violence after a sharp increase in the number of killings of school-age children.
Seriously, a local community is looking to the federal government to solve its crime problem? These people are begging for a nanny state.

What good will it do when many in these communities reject law enforcement on the basis of real and perceived racism. Valerie Jarrett makes the point:
“But the people have to take ownership too and be willing to report crimes, and when they see them, to testify,” Ms. Jarrett said. “This is a partnership.”
Guns are not the problem, though. The War On Drugs is what is killing these kids:

The War On Drugs has killed more kids than any drug ever would have in any of these communities. The only thing these moralist hypocrites should be demanding from the federal government is an end to the root cause of the incarceration and death of too many from their own communities: the quagmire War On Drugs.

In response the Government introduced stricter gun controls despite it being already very difficult for a private individual to own a gun. Now it is virtually impossible to legally own a gun in Britain yet gun crime goes up year on year.
When will control freak politicians get the message that people who want to use guns in criminal activity have no interest in owning those guns legally?
you can easily find how many deaths occurred with guns, but immeasurably harder to locate is how many incidents occurred wherein guns PREVENTED a death (or a crime).
i would love to see a statistic on what percentage of gun crimes are committed with illegal guns.
is it just coincidence that i HAVEN’T ever seen these items reported?
i saw an episode of cops a while back where they responded to an attempted robbery call to find the perp spread-eagle on the front lawn of the home he attempted to break into.
when the squad pulled up, an old man wielding a sidearm came limping down the driveway saying, “i woulda saved you boys [the cops] the trouble, but he was too cooperative.”
i laughed out loud & wondered about the level of cooperation had not the gun been involved–say a bat, or a knife, or pepper spray, or some such….
take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens & only criminals will have guns….
