Hawaii passes a bill that calls for September 24th, 2009 for be named Islam Day!
HONOLULU — Hawaii’s state Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill Wednesday to celebrate “Islam Day” — over the objections of a few lawmakers who said they didn’t want to honor a religion connected to Sept. 11, 2001.
The resolution to proclaim Sept. 24, 2009, as Islam Day passed the Senate on a 22-3 vote.
Put 9/11 aside for a moment. How in the world is this constitutional? What’s next, Jewish Day? Christian Day? Mormon Day? Buddhist Day? Hale Bop Day?
Only one Democrat in the Hawaii legislature seems to recall that the U.S. has what used to be a constitution.
The lone Democrat voting against the bill opposed it on church-state separation fears.
What a disgrace.

Good question.
While I don’t really approve of this, the Constitution was originally a document defining the US Government, a contract between the several states. And the First Amendment simply says that *Congress* (that is, the US congress) shall pass no law respecting the establishment of religion, etc.
I know we now have the 14 amendment which is 1) a bit overreaching, IMHO, and 2) often misconstrued to mean that the limitations of the US Government are also placed on the governments of the states. However, IANAL ;)
I’m shock, SHOCKED I SAY! According to the story there are actually 2 Republican Senators. How did 2 Republicans sneak into the Hawaiian Senate???

That was my sentiment exactly WTF! I have already sent an email to the senate in Hawaii and I hope others do the same. I am disgusted with whats going on in this country.
This is absolute lunacy and it is a downright DISCRACE!!!!! WTF is right!!!! This country is unraveling from the inside out and it’s all due to the freaking bleeding heart libs. They all need to be put on a spaceship and be sent off to galaxy far, far away! So today it’s islam day (I won’t even capitalize that word, it doesn’t deserve the respect)tomorrow it will be Atheists Day or Devil Worship Day. When does it end????
