This is almost as bad as when they say traffic citations go towards development of roadways... Well, how about the Chicago Highway, that was suppose to connect the North side to the South side...?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosstown_Expressway_(Chicago)

Really all that happens with traffic citations is illigal taxation at gunpoint.

kudos on your refresher course.

all taxes are paid by the individual. period. do not be misled.

obama's "windfall profits tax" schemes will ultimately & simply be passed on to the individual as either the consumer, the laid-off employee, &/or the employee with cut benefits.

I would like to welcome Illinois to the party! We here in Nevada had our state legislature override the governor's veto on a 781 million dollar tax increase bringing the total in new taxes and fees to a hair under a billion dollars.

Nevada leads the nation in home foreclosures and is climbing in unemployment but thankfully the state will not have to share the economic hardship our residents are feeling.

As one of several hundred protesters who showed up at the legislature steps Friday, our cries fell on deaf ears as 6 so called Republicans voted for the public employees union to pass the largest tax increase in the state's history.

We are left with the choice of ousting the tax and spend mentality or learning to forage for food as our jobs continue to leave the country.

Some choice!

We all need to focus on pushing for responsible spending from government and bring together the single issue conservative movements so we can begin shouting with one voice. The longer we stay divided among ourselves, the more power the other side with grab.

Laddy,

I would agree with the current state of Illinois Republicans but there will come a point where the Republican won't need to be strong because the Democrats are weakening. It many not seem that way now but they certainly aren't getting more popular. That's the exact same reason why all these decaying media-fuelled "Republicans need to be more inclusive" stories are nothing but a distraction. The growning (and yes, it's growing) opposition to President Obama's intentional economic missteps will be aimed at the incumbents (read Democrats). By 2010, this will be so intense that it won't matter how strong the opposition candidate appears to be because the incumbent will be weakened.

Excellent point regarding certain zones of Illinois. I just love that there are SEVERAL states who would gladly accept additional businesses and population and will maintain contrasting tax environments as incentive.

My Husband and I have a small business, and he has a state job here in Illinois. He's one of the state workforce that the people of Illinois actually NEED, not some RIPed desk wonk - but we've decided to gear up our business and move out of state - we're researching where. It's become impossible to be an American in Illinois. If enough people like us just move where our income benefits US most, then maybe we can create pockets of sanity in this mayhem - No hope for that here.

If Illinois had any brains to drain, they wouldn't have given us Blago, Obama, Quinn, Durbin, etc. And recent batches of Illinois Republicans haven't been much better. I left the state a year ago.

There's almost no chance for Republicans in Illinois. If you find one statewide, he/she is probably a RINO. I don't think it's even remotely possible for Republicans to ever seize control of the legislature. Chicago and the industrial pockets along the Mississippi and in the coal fields pretty much guarantee a Democrat stranglehold. In my area there are people who think it's great that Obama is taking the automakers away from the rich people and giving it to the unions. Unreal to say the least.

I think the "brain drain" in the land of Lincoln has already happened some time ago. I guess that would mean it's an oxymoron of sorts.
