A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night when a driver, distracted while painting her fingernails, slammed into her at a traffic light near northwest suburban Lake Zurich, authorities said today.
Awful! It would be interesting to see a study as to what is the most fatal: driving while using the cell phone, driving while eating, driving while talking, driving while intoxicated, or the always popular, driving while applying makeup.
I think everyone who has an accident by being distracted should face stiff criminal penalties..at least an automatic 10 years for simple accident and if someone is injured then more time and if death then life or the death penalty..people would definately be paying more attention or paying the consequence. I’m 59 and never had an accident or even a ticket for anything because I am a very defensive driver, I drive to the left, to the right and behind and in front of me always scanning for possible moves in case of an accident or distracted motorist..I have picked out ahead of me places to immediately pull off to avoid anything that may pose a hazard..you say this is too much?? It is what we are suppose to be doing..Most people don’t even know the rules of the road, simple rules like who goes first at a 4 way stop..I have seen people just sit there with a so called intelligent look on their face wondering what to do, especially women..they don’t have a clue..
