A Little Game Of Scruples Regarding Steve Jobs Liver Transplant

June 24, 2009

With Steve Jobs‘s consent, the Memphis hospital that conducted his liver transplant two months ago issued a statement denying he received any special treatment, classifying him as “the sickest person on the waiting list.”

Let’s consider for a moment, the argument that Jobs should have gotten preferential treatment and paid through nose for the pleasure.

How many lives would be saved if a new and well funded “Job’s Endowment” helped sustain ground breaking liver transplant research?

Under the current leadership of our beloved Progressive Republic, there is a case to be made that the government would have been well within its rights to nationalize Mr. Jobs specific case, pay for his treatment, and bump him to the front of the line. A sort of “Jobs Bailout” if you will.

After that, the government would have owned Jobs’s ass. All that would be left to do is pass regulation mandating he work a certain % of his time, and “donate” a certain % of money in perpetuity. A sort of “Putting Jobs To Work For You” plan.

Oversight would be provided by a newly seated Joint Congressional Committee on Medical Determinations, Receivables, and Disbursement, of course.

Oh well. There’s always the next sick billionaire.

Hopefully this sort of missed opportunity will be avoided under socialized medicine health care reform.
