Hispanics Angry Over Sotomayor Cartoon. Republicans Are The Ones Who Should Feel Offended

June 7, 2009

Some Hispanic activists are apparently upset about a recent cartoon depicting Sonia Sotomayor as a pinata waiting to be beaten by a bunch of club wielding Republicans.

While we can see why Hispanics might be upset about this, it is Republicans who should be offended. It is not exactly flattering to be depicted as a woman beater.

This cartoon sums up precisely why Obama repeated his racial identity politics that were so successful for his presidential campaign with the selection of Sotomayor. Interesting also that the editorial cartoonist who enthusiastically promotes this tactic, inadvertently offended some Hispanics. The parallels of the unintended consequences of liberal policy is also notable.

Sure, the cartoon is nomilly funny. I “get it.”

But it focuses on Sotomayor as the “latina”-pinata…maybe it would be more appropriate for “conservative” humor if the PINATA were the *U.S. Constitution* to be *smashed* apart…BY *SOBama*!

I don’t like what Sotomayor has said so far, but I am offended by this cartoon. I do not feel that Republicans are trying to destroy her.

The cartoon is a demonization of Republicans.

Of course, I am reminded that the left demonized GWB many a time.
