Is This Pic Of An Iranian Woman Giving Ahmadi-Nejad The Finger Real Or Photoshopped? (UPDATED)
June 25, 2009 | 12 Comments
A classic response to the astroturfing.
Here is a photo of a female student flipping off Ahmadinejad the day they ran him off from the University (when all this revolt started).
Is this image of an Iranian woman giving Ahmadi-Nejad the finger real or Photoshopped?

Please please plesae please please be real.
Is the middle finger a universal symbol for the suggestion to self-copulate?
UPDATE:
Drudge Potato Al doubts its authenticity in the comments section. Here is a close up of the bird in question:
UPDATE II:
Here is the original photo: LINK
Too bad it is not real, although it is still a very brave thing to do. Thanks to all of our amazing readers who sent in this link!

Sadly, I would vote Photoshopped. There’s a bit of blurring on the left side of her sleeve and she should have her thumb crossing over the tip of her index finger (thumb appears absent). Mahmoud also would likely be looking right at her.
Great image regardless.
I vote for real. The shadows are correct on all figures. The reflections of the woman in the chrome are correct. With enough magnification you can see her thumb clearly. The blurring and artifacts are common with the cheap lenses on some cameras. If it’s Photoshopped it is an excellent job.
That would be a pretty gutsy thing to do, especially given that Iran hangs people for less. Though I doubt they would wait for that. I can just hear OddJob telling his driver, “We’re late, step on it.” She wouldn’t have time to get out of the way.
It’s phauxtoshopped
Look at the size of her hand relative to OddJob’s. Her’s is tiny by comparison, but she is supposed to be a LOT closer, i.e., no foreshortening with distance. Here it is in reverse…
and here…

because some people will believe anything.
One way to tell this isn’t real is there is no bullet exiting her head.
Shadow is correct. The closer I look, the more I can see the thumb resting against the side of the 2nd joint in the index finger.
When I try to make the same gesture with my thumb placed as in the photo, it’s physically impossible for me to fully extend the middle finger as in the image.
Almost.

Almost. She still blocked the motorcade, but she didn’t give the bird.

Here is the original, folks:

Still and incredibly courageous, audacious thing to do.
[...] It was indeed a photoshop…but only the finger part: [...]
Yeah…
I loved the photoshop version, but the original also speaks volume…
Whoever you are, little lady, I salute you and your big brass ovaries…
:-)
I would be surprised to see anyone giving the finger in Iran, especially when it is customary to give the thumb (which is equivalent to the finger) or the “OK” sign (Which is equivalent to calling someone an “a**hole” . . .
I still want to believe it’s real though :)
