Should Turkey Go Stuff Itself?

June 24, 2009

The Islamist government of Turkey is embracing the islamist regime in Tehran!

The Turks have no excuse. President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Mr. Ahmadinejad in the days after polls closed. This Ankara government, whose roots are in the country’s Islamist movement, has shifted away from traditional friendships with the West and Israel and reached out to Hamas and the Iranian regime. The leaders of the Muslim world’s most dynamic democracy lost a chance to buck up the millions of Iranians who want the same for themselves.

Maybe the EU is correct to keep Turkey out.

Having just spent almost a week in Turkey – most of it in Istanbul – the best, wisest thing the EU could do would be to keep Turkey OUT of the EU! I for one will never return to Turkey. Bodrum or Kusadasi? Maybe, if a cruise ship happens to port there [or perhaps those will be the days I remain on the ship by the pool with a good book - same, same]. But ever – EVER – visit Istanbul again? Not a chance in he11! Way too Islamic for me. 98.99% – and that from a Muslim woman I met on a veranda drinking wine – she was the one drinking wine – I was drinking vodka.
