IBD asks this rather provocative question after members of Congress accuse the CIA of lying to the government:
Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee on June 26 fired off a nasty letter to CIA head and former high-ranking Democratic Rep. Leon Panetta. The thrust was that their former House Democratic colleague is a liar.
Signed by Reps. Anna Eshoo, Alcee Hastings, Rush Holt, Jan Schakowsky, Adam Smith, Mike Thompson and John Tierney, the curt message said:
“Recently you have testified that you have determined that top CIA officials have concealed significant actions from all Members of Congress, and misled Members for a number of years from 2001 to this week. This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods.”
It is unclear if this indicates Panetta is a “mole” but it sure does support the idea that Democrats in Congress are weasels.
If Panetta was indeed being lied to, wouldn’t that mean he wasn’t the mole? And at any rate, I’m not so sure about the suggestion that this has anything to do with double agents. Being incompetent and even deceitful may make you a traitor, but you’re only a double agent if you’re doing it for another country (at least that’s my understanding).
In any case, I agree with Newsy when they say “…it’s an important battle about transparency…” True, the CIA is all about opacity, but at the end of the day, we still need to know we can trust the organization, or it’s all a great big waste of time. It’s more than a little obvious that Panetta got orders from Team Obama to cover for Queen Nancy’s BS-spree… but their are other centers of power at Langley that won’t stand for this rubbish.
Pelosi was every bit as informed on the decision to us EITs as were the GOP… but is now lying about it in an attempt to appease the antiwar left and fulfill specious campaign posturing.
And apparently Pelosi and Obama forgot something: the CIA KILLS people… it’s in their job description. Did these two really think that these killers were going to just meekly take-one-for-the-team… when the team captain is a lying, incompetent, arrogant nebbish who has basically told them they need to kiss his ring? -please
Obama really kicked an ant hill with his ill-advised and politically motivated release of Bush Administration memos regarding EITs.
Let’s have a hearing and get it all out there, shall we? Then watch the rats scatter who attacked Bush for protecting the country from terrorist attack… but who clearly knew what was going on five years before we heard a peep out of them.
