Below is but one quote from an opinion piece by Dorothy Rabinowitz in today’s Wall Street Journal.

The president has a problem. For, despite a great election victory, Mr. Obama, it becomes ever clearer, knows little about Americans. He knows the crowds—he is at home with those. He is a stranger to the country’s heart and character.

President Obama (and his wife for that matter) thinks he knows this country’s heart and character, and he has decided he doesn’t like it.

Read the whole piece because it is worth it.

UPDATE: [via Memeorandum] Betsy Newmark sounds this warning:

I wouldn’t advise the Republicans to celebrate prematurely. The Democrats still have the power to push through some version of their health care plan. It might not be as overreaching as the House and Kennedy plans, but that was always likely to be the case. Legislation usually begins at the more extreme end and moves toward the middle to pick up more supporters. And once they get some sort of public option put into place, they can then follow the inexorable path of all entitlement plans and expand into a huge, new government program.

When your party is falling apart at the seams, Palin has become marginlized and Governor Sanford is a cheating, money spending, liar – what other choice do you have but to attach with Fraudulent Claims. The Republicans of today, are not conservatives. Reagan would be insulting, if he were alive today. Bush passes a Bailout bill, spearheaded by Paulson, one of the guys who profited from lack of over sight on Wall Street. So he gives most of it to his buddies! I used to be a republican, am still conservative, but smear campaigns will have me voting DEM again straight down the ballot in 2010!

Voting straight Dem because…smear campaigns? Like the one being run against the voices of dissent of the American people by the likes of Reid, Pelosi and the POTUS?

While I agree the Republicans are a feckless bunch of morons, voting straight ANYTHING at this point is asinine.

VOTE FOR INTELLIGENT CANDIDATES who have some kind of track record of doing what’s CORRECT for us, not stooges like the ones on either side of the political aisle. The Dems are even more corrupt than the Republicans, so how the HELL can you say you’d vote straight Dem? So they can give us a sinking economy (it didn’t go over the edge of the cliff until we had a DEMOCRATIC congress in 2006.

I’m TIRED of mendacious morons like you, Scott, who are either plants for the Dems, or don’t have the brains to see beyond party lines. I don’t give a rat’s ass if it’s the Dems or the Repubs or a third party, it’s about having someone in office with common sense and a modicum of decency (i.e. not on the ‘take’), who is not there only to line their own pockets or bask in the power-bath that is Washington DC.

The Tea parties, the protests at town halls, they are not about smears, they are about real frustration, with buffoons who have made selfish decisions.

Where’s the smear? Should we get into a pissing match over how many Repubs cheated vs. Democrats? STUPID. STUPID. Both sides have villians and good guys, and I believe you are either blind, or again, a plant, to come here and talk about “smears” and ONLY mention Sanford…and of course, the little dig at Palin, who is probably less marginalized than Obama or Biden.

No one cares about them except as fodder for scorn or satire. We KNOW they are lying, Obama spent his town hall meeting LYING through his teeth; the videos of his speeches saying the exact opposite of what he lied about today are out there.

Tiresome, Scott, tiresome to listen to them and to read your smear about who is smearing whom.

Obama has no innate sense of what it means to be an American. Words like integrity, truthfulness, honesty, accountability, and forthrightness just aren’t in his vocabulary. In today’s world of YouTube and 24-hour news cycles, each and every inconsistency is on record for easy access.
The public has grown weary of unresponsive politicians who say one thing and do something else. Inconsistency of action reflects inconsistency of thought, which is really a lack of moral principle. And principles are the bedrock of our national psyche.
Self-serving politicians should be very wary. A national re-awakening is about to occur and if you’re not going to preserve and advance American ideals, then you’ll be tossed aside and replaced with someone who will.
