Illinois is receiving copious amounts of federal tax payer dollars to “boost awareness” for the upcoming census.

How are they planning on boosting awareness? By handing out millions of dollars to Obama-Progressive friendly groups.

A push to reverse low census participation in Illinois will soon be coming via barber, baby-sitter, tax preparer, librarian and even iTunes download, part of a first-of-its-kind collaboration by local charities.

The “Count Me In” project on Wednesday will announce $1.2 million in grants to 26 groups for census outreach in 37 traditionally undercounted Chicago neighborhoods and cities around Illinois.

The name of one recipient in particular jumps off the page….The Woods Fund. When you think Woods Fund, think ACORN.

The other foundations participating are Boeing Co.’s foundation, Chicago Bar Foundation, Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, Grand Victoria Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Polk Bros. Foundation, Steans Family Foundation and Woods Fund of Chicago.

For those of you who are late to the party, and do not know about the Woods Fund, visit this link to read about their connections to Islamists, especially Rashid Khalidi.

Perhaps the most notorious of the Woods Fund recipients was the Arab American Action Network (AAAN). AAAN was established in 1995 as non-profit group supposedly dedicated to improving the conditions of Arab immigrants in the Chicago area.

But its activities were hardly benign. For example, AAAN sponsored a Palestinian art exhibit on the “Nakba” — that is, the “catastrophe” of Israel’s establishment in 1948. AAAN’s officials routinely have made statements vilifying Israel. AAAN Board member Ali Abunimah in 2002 declared: “‘By deliberately denying food, water and medical aid, and wantonly destroying public and private property, and deliberately destroying the economy in the occupied territories, Israel is in flagrant breach of this [Geneva] Convention. … Unfortunately, we are seeing the world turn a blind eye to atrocities being committed under its nose.” (Abunimah co-founded and operates the Electronic Intifada, a website replete with anti-Israel slurs and which declares Israel to be an apartheid state.)

On the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004, Hatem Abudayyeh, executive director of AAAN, announced: “Arafat was a great man. Yes, Arafat was an icon. … We’re saddened by his death, but we don’t ignore the fact that this is not an issue of individuals, it’s an issue of a people who have been oppressed and occupied for 55 years.”

Also serving on the Woods Fund at the time was Palestinian activist and now professor at Columbia University Rashid Khalidi, whose wife headed AAAN. The Woods Fund granted AAAN $40,000 in 2001 and $70,000 in 2002. As Salon magazine wrote, this was “nepotism, Chicago style.” [READ MORE]

I’m not sure why you are so upset. Israel has been oppressing and mistreating Palestinians for over 60 years. The Nakba was/is a catastrophe for the Palestinian people. Israel does deny food, water and medical aid, and wantonly destroys public and private property, and deliberately destroys the economy in the occupied territories, Israel is in flagrant breach of the Geneva Convention. I suppose that what is upsetting is that more people are beginning to notice. The villification for supporters of justice for Palestine has become more difficult for the propagandists. Give it a rest. We are tired of your lies.

ok, I had read something, then saw Michelle malkins post, then came here. An article in the aug 23 Chicago Tribune also named the Chicago Community Fund as a recipient of federal funds for the census.

the chicago community trust is currently run by Terry Mazany, and formerly run by Arne Duncan, Obama’s new education secretary. Is there no conflict of interest in handing our tax dollars to business associates and friends of people in BOs administration?
