Another Creepy ‘Indoctrination Of America’s Youth’ Video! This Time In Washington State

October 18, 2009

The Washington Education Association (teachers Union) features the video below on their YouTube channel. In it, two kids urge parents to vote for referendum 71

From the Approve 71 website:

About Referendum 71: Voting APPROVE on Ref. 71 is a vote to keep the domestic partnership law that provides legal protections for lesbian and gay couples and seniors who are in committed relationships. To be able to take unpaid leave to care for a critically ill loved one, without being fired. To be able to cover a partner in family health insurance. To make sure hard-earned pension and death benefits protect children when a parent dies. Approving Ref. 71 ensures that important protections are not taken away from committed couples, so that they are able to take care of each other, especially in times of crisis. Keep the domestic partnership law – Vote APPROVE on Ref. 71 by Nov 3.

This blog actually supports the ideas in this referendum as described above. Gay people should enjoy every single right straight people do.

On a larger level, none of this would matter if the government would get the hell out of relationship endorsement all together, and STOP issuing marriage licenses to anyone. Then gay people would have all the same rights as straights.

Does anybody ever stop and wonder why we let the government regulate relationships like marriage in the first place? It doesn’t get much more nanny state than that, needing permission from big brother about who you can marry.

All of that aside though, the video above is absolutely creepy. The Obama shirt on the kid on the left is a nice touch too. Under aged political props are not complete without some kind of Obama gear.

UPDATE: Well that didn’t take long. An embarrassed WEA has pulled the video. Did anyone download a copy before it was yanked?

*****”Does anybody ever stop and wonder why we let the government regulate relationships like marriage in the first place? It doesn’t get much more nanny state than that, needing permission from big brother about who you can marry.”*****

Okay Founding Bloggers. Don’t be obtuse like most of your opponents. Of course many people have stopped to wonder why we let the government regulate relationships. I addressed this in another blog post you did some time ago, and I exchanged a lively debate with someone about it. Someone who could not come close to answering my arguments. You did not answer them either.

There is at least one reason why we need government in the business of marriage, and least in some way, and that is in order to carry on the functions of the military. There may be other reasons as well, but this one is clear and immediate. If you discontinue support of military families because the gov’t no longer recognizes marriage and no longer provides strong benefits to military families, then we will find ourselves without a volunteer military. There is no possible way a SANE person would enlist in the military if they could not receive benefits for their married spouse and children. They would have to be daft. Here is a link to my full argument right here on your blog:

I like your site. You are all over things, and that is great, but this issue you are caught up in unreality. Think about it!

Tea- I think most of your concerns would be address by the institution of a flat tax. End all tax breaks of every kind for every “special class” of tax payer. Every pays the same amount. Shocking!!

But to your other point about recognition of marriage for access to benefits, we are not suggesting the abolition of contract law. People should be free to enter into contracts regarding their commitment to each other without needing the state’s permission. This idea upsets some people, because it opens the door for multiple-partner marriages. Since I do not think God actually gives a crap, and because I do not think it would be as popular as some people fear, I do not have a hang-up about it.

I hope this sheds more light on our position. You obviously put time and thought into your previous comments, and we appreciate that very much.

Thank you for the response, however; I do not think it comes from a complete understanding of just how family life exists in the military or how far military benefits extend in protecting families and *children* so that they can endure that hard life.

If you are suggesting that we continue to provide those same benefits (and we had better!), but we do so based on “contracts” defining relationships rather than “marriage licenses,” then you need to plan on a pretty big flat tax, because that will bankrupt the military, and, frankly, deeply weaken its great internal strength.

The institution of marriage makes sense, and extortionists should not be allowed to destroy it.

Add a point for the Jihadists if they do.
