It’s really hard to take the award seriously, although the Nobel Committee apparently do. Of course, it was hard to take other awards seriously, like for Arafat, Gore, and Carter.

The seriousness of the award is the fact that some people take the Nobel Prize seriously in spite of the joke it has become.

The Nobel Prize Committee has completely stripped the prize of any prestige or value by constantly passing over those who’s achievements actually deserve the award. By giving the award to someone who has good intentions, rather than actions, the prize has no value. What I mean to say is the award seems to be given to him to ensure he KEEPS his promises on pulling out of Iraq and Afgahnistan.

Sometimes the award is meant to politically urge peace. It was given to Stalin after WW2 to guilt him into not killing off all the uprising eastern Europeans. It was given to Arafat to guilt him into sending less suicide bombers and to make him pursue peace. Hell even Hitler was nominated although that clearly failed to do what it intended (maybe it did he didn’t invade Norway where the prize is voted on)
