Dave has taken some interesting positions on the War in Afghanistan over the years.

"Yeah, there's no time like now to start forgiving, to turn the other cheek, to show the world that we're really tough, and that we're commited to making the world work better. What better way would there be to do that than to not go to war in response to a cowardly and disgusting act of war." - September 11th, 2001

"Here's the scoop. The Taliban believe they brought down the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, and there's reason to believe they're right. I've read that they think "One down one to go." They think we're weaker than the Soviets (they're probably right). Every time they've engaged us, in Lebanon, Somalia, Saudia Arabia, we've run away rather than fight. A friend asked what's the big deal, let them have Iraq and Israel, my life will be fine. Uhhh, no, they want the US too, and they don't mind living in wastelands. In other words the stakes are clearly much larger than the average world citizen gets." - September 20th, 2001

"Afghanistan. Afghanistan. Afghanistan. I'm so tired of Afghanistan." - October 24th, 2001

"Our track record for follow-through is abysmal, ask Afghanistan or Pakistan." - April 10th, 2003

"I didn't understand that for all practical purposes we had destroyed al Qaeda in Afghanistan, that their plan of drawing the US into a hopeless war failed, that we prevailed and drove bin Laden into hiding." - April 25th, 2007

Franglo asked:

“What kind of idiot didn’t notice that Obama campaigned on escalating the war in Afghanistan?”

Answer: Every idiot at Rube Central who blew off what Obama said with "Yeah, but Obama has to say that to get elected. We all know he doesn't really mean it."

Considering the original topic addressed the expectation of progressives that Obama would end the war in Afghanistan, I doubt the fact that the president doubled the number of boots on the ground counts as evidence of terminating the war.

franglo also conveniently glosses over the Obama claim that the Bush administration left them with no plan (not true), that the expansion (in theory) was announced back in March, and that it took Barry eight months to allocate 34,000 troops, instead of the requested 40,000. If he were that devoted to troop increase, this all would happened back in March.

Barry Obama promised (implicitly) many things to many people when he ran. Now he's trying to pacify the progressives while preventing the perception that he just wants to cut'n'run. (er, excuse the alliteration)

All of his promises do have expiration dates; even SNL has called him on it; the fanboys like franglo need to get on their meds, get off caffeine, and quite sputtering all over their keyboard when someone criticizes their idol.

"Regardless, Glenn Reynolds is correct when he says, “every promise has an expiration date.”

Say what? Didn't you mean to say, Glenn Reynolds is taking a false cheap shot at Obama, today like every day?

What kind of idiot didn't notice that Obama campaigned on escalating the war in Afghanistan?

Did the same idiots not notice that Obama has already DOUBLED the number of troops in Afghanistan since taking office?

If you don't know what in blazes you are talking about, then by all means, STFU, Glenn Reynolds.

The Obama voters are truly the biggest suckers ever born. Please God, let me figure out a way to get even one dollar each from them...it can't be that hard to fool them once again.

- Under Bush, combat troops would deployed to Iraq through 2012.

- Under Obama, combat troops will be deployed to Iraq through 2012.

- In the same numbers.

- Doing the same thing.
