When I was a child during the height of WWII my mother and I took a cross-country train trip. In our car was a soldier traveling in uniform and carrying his rifle. He carried it easily everywhere he went, even in the diner. Passengers reacted with warmth and pride.

Polite and reserved, he looked to my young eyes like any young adult who pumped gas or played baseball. but different, the eyes of the newly-initiated into manhood.

The predictable and politically correct ‘solution’ will most likely be even more draconian gun control measures on base. If the Armed Forces is no longer willing to trust its people with the tools of their trade, I predict more military terror incidents against our disarmed brothers and sisters in arms.
