Founding Bloggers can confirm that we too captured an image of the writing on Governor Palin’s hand. The notes appear to be very innocuous.

On the other hand, the outrage on the left is being completely misunderstood by the right. Democrats don’t mind that she needed a few notes for her speech. They’re upset that Sarah used her hand, proving once again that she is an unsophisticated hick. Everybody knows that whether you’re talking in a sixth grade classroom, or talking dirty to the First Lady, using anything other than a presidential-level teleprompter is simply pedestrian.

UPDATE: EXCLUSIVE! BREAKING! Obama Writes On Hand Too!

UPDATE II: Michelle Malkin is featuring our pic in her post “Hand Jive” and she also has an extensive roundup of reaction to this nontroversey. Also, don’t miss her listed reasons why it is unwise for the left to be so frothing with outrage over handgate.

A good public speaker will jot a few words as mnemonics on their hand, a single sheet of paper of or a book cover. I used to to that on public speaking gigs.

A bad public speaker will read from a script or autocue.

In a truly lamntable public speaking performance the speaker will read in a monotone from script or autocue and his or her diction will be so poor many words will be unintelligible. Am I talking about Obama’s State Of The Union Speech? Maybe.

At least with Sarah Palin I can always tell what she is saying even if it is not always the mix of banalities and buzzwords Obama fans like to describe as “soaring rhetoric.”

I find Sarah’s speeches inspiring. She’s plain spoken without a hint of condescension. The fact that she isn’t polished, slick and glib is part of what makes her so attractive. What I find incomprehensible is that anyone considers the Wizard of Uhs’ sophistry and platitudes “soaring rhetoric”.
Being a patriot doesn’t mean giving unearned respect to politicians just because they hold high office. Being a patriot means holding people who want to wield power to a high standard and making them earn respect. There is no room in America for cults of personality.

  35. SteveP on February 8, 2010 1:35 am

    Parker,
Does being that stupid come naturally or did you cultivate it as a skill?
There is a big difference between the flag and the president. He has to earn respect just like anyone else. It isn’t his by right.
He’s getting what he’s earned, which is contempt. Opposing a man who is working to destroy the liberties that are our birthright is patriotism. Supporting him is dishonoring the country.

Speaking of hypocrites, where were you for eight years while the left was spitting venom and lies about Bush?

  36. Mark in Kansas on February 8, 2010 2:27 am

    Parker,

You leftists are pretty much interchangeable. You’ve thrown out several assertions, made some innuendo and finished up with some thinly veiled misogyny.

The disrespect was actually directed towards the President of the United States based upon his inability to make soaring rhetoric without the use of prepared speeches presented to him on his teleprompter. If you can’t defend that, throwing out a reference to the United States flag is a poor attempt to divert the argument to one you haven’t tried yet. More intellectual capability is required to make a speech based upon four or five words written in the palm of your hand than there is in reading from a script that appears on two screens in front of you.

Feel free to point out exactly how criticizing the President of the United States is in any way dishonorable. Be sure to include references to the criticism of President Bush during his tenure as President and explain how doing that makes any one un-Christian-like and violates any of the commandments.

You and I have never met, yet you claim to know why I like Governor Palin. Either you’re smarter than John Kerry and Joe Biden combined or you’re merely throwing out the talking points your “betters” have given you for the week. Which is it? Smarter than “Mr. Nuance” and “Plugs” together, or merely doing what you’re told?

I heard over and over again that speaking out against a president during wartime is borderline treason and should be arrested for such, yet now when a dem is in office it’s the patriotic thing to do. I don’t get the double standard.

Yea that was a brilliant speech. She basically said Obama needs to declare another war in order to get re-elected. Right. I guess everything must come in 3’s for you people, 2 countries isn’t enough.

The reason she scares democrats so much is because I can’t imagine how badly our country would turn if she was elected president, and I can imagine many of you people voting for her for some reason. Is there an inside joke you aren’t telling us? Is Dick Cheney sitting on the rafters moving her around like a puppeteer? She quit her job, wrote a book filled with fallacies, and thinks she has foreign policy experience by living in Alaska. I live near a military base, but I don’t pretend to know what goes on in there. To be perfectly fair this fuss about Palin’s crib notes is beside the point. Serious matters are being discussed. God it’s so funny watching the right-wing blogs flail around to defend Palin’s idiocy. What else could this woman possibly do to display her stupidity before you abandon her as a cause-celebre?

For Christ’s sake, she needed to write down “tax cuts” on her hand at the Tea Party Convention. When she speaks at a pro-life banquet does she have to write “abortion = bad” on her hand? Hahahahahahahahahahhaha

  63. no2 monitor on February 8, 2010 12:27 pm

To some, writing on the hand has become a habit. I know some few friends, and they are teachers of universities and they also write on their hands so not to forget what they want to say…. Anyways, Sarah should be careful… people are watching her every move.

  64. salvage on February 8, 2010 12:29 pm

    AHAHAHAHHA!

YES! We are “outraged” because Palin is so stupid she cannot remember the basic tenants of her political beliefs.

You’d think it’d be her supporters who’d be “outraged” but that would require thinking and introspection that is well beyond their mental pay grade.

  65. Ryan on February 8, 2010 12:35 pm

We’re not outraged by any stretch of the imagination. We’re belly-laughing that the start of the right-wing needs to have her core convictions cribbed onto her hand. It’s as if Martin Luther King needed to have “Civil Rights” written on a scrip of paper tucked into his shirt sleeve.

  66. Mike on February 8, 2010 12:36 pm

Outrage, no. Hilarity? Absolutely. She actually needed to put tax cuts on her hands so she wouldn’t forget. You people chant tax cuts like movie zombies chant “brains”. Its your solution to every problem the world has ever faced. Best to write it on your end (oops TAX cuts, not BUDGET cuts) so you won’t forget though.

You couldn’t create a dumber representation of the tea party movement if you TRIED. And you PAID HER!! LMAO!!!!

  67. jayackroyd on February 8, 2010 12:59 pm

For those comparing this to a teleprompter or other ways (like paper) to delivered prepared remarks, she did that. The notes in hand were for the q&a, not the formal remarks.

Now we on the left find this medium for recording your talking points pretty darn funny. And that she needed to write down such core issues (and then refer to them!) is an indication that she is not the least bit serious about any policy agenda, or about conservative philosophies

It is also easy to why she did this. She can’t in an informal q&a be visibly consulting talking points. They should have set it up so she could refer to talking points unobtrusively. You know, like set lists at a rock concert. But the armchair format prevented that.

She doesn’t care about government or law or policy one bit. She only cares about her own bank account and having people admire her. Just like a beauty queen. Bow down, and show deference!

The best part is, watching the slobbering gushing fans of hers treat her like some queen, exempt from any criticism at all.

Please republicans, I beg you please run her as your presidential candidate in 2012. Nothing would ensure complete collapse of the GOP as we know it.

No one on the left is outraged at this. We are amused.

It’s funny that someone with the skills of a fifth grader prepping to cheat on an arithmetic test is seriously thinking of running for President. Or maybe it’s not that funny.

Oh, and Obama must be stupid, too, because only stupid people graduate Magna Cum Laude from Harvard, while the really bright ones take only five years at five different schools to get a degree in sports journalism.

And BTW, Obama needed no teleprompter to eviscerate the R’s at their conference last week, did he?

  74. joe from Lowell on February 8, 2010 2:38 pm

It’s funny how this keeps happening: the right settles on a talking point they really like about Obama, and then Sarah Palin ruins it…and her fans cheer wildly.

“The Democrats only picked Obama because of affirmative action.” Which made picking a clearly-unqualified woman a really bad idea.

“Obama doesn’t have enough experience.” So, let’s put the half-term governor Alaska a heartbeat away from the presidency.

“Obama needs notes whenever he talks in public.” Oopsie.

  75. Joe on February 8, 2010 3:07 pm

apparently this hit a nerve with y’all. face it. your spokewomen acts like a 14 yr old girl. Maybe she can complain how unfair liberals are on her facebook page.

  77. Joe on February 8, 2010 3:09 pm

oh, and I’m not outraged at all (I think conservatives should be angry that they have been duped so badly by a know-nothing half term governor, but that’s beside the point). I think this HILARIOUS!

    Palin in 2012!

  78. rich & Sheba Walls on February 8, 2010 3:10 pm

she is what she is dumb and dumber all in one

  79. elf on February 8, 2010 3:17 pm

I suppose that if she were to stand in the middle of the street and wait for a bus to hit her, “palinites” would trip over themselves upholding and defending that action as well.

It is one thing to respect and revere a person for their beliefs, but quite another to willingly hold your head out there for the wool.

  80. MDC on February 8, 2010 4:22 pm

This teleprompter obsession on the right is just bizarre. Where was the mockery and outrage when Bush 2, Bush 1, Reagan, McCain, etc. used teleprompters? What about, oh, I don’t know, every Republican governor and member of Congress, when they have to give a speech?

What about PALIN at the GOP convention? Remember how she lied about her teleprompter “breaking” to explain why she messed up her speech?

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/palin-and-the-t.html

Teleprompters are a standard speechmaker’s tool, and have been for decades.

But you guys know this. It’s just that you are flaming moral relativists. I guess that’s what makes the rampant hypocrisy so easy for you.

By the way, did you watch Obama sans teleprompter smacking down the House Republicans last week? (Go ahead, explain how that one doesn’t count, according to whatever double standard you just made up.)

  81. Sirkowski on February 8, 2010 4:24 pm

A conservative needs to write “TAX CUTS” on her hand, because a conservative might forget to talk about TAX CUTS…

TAX CUTS, the thing conservatives always talk about.

    She might forget.

    LOL

  82. MDC on February 8, 2010 4:27 pm

P.S. Why would anyone be outraged at Palin writing on her hand? It’s hilarious! She’s like a junior high school kid making a pathetically lame attempt to cheat on a math quiz!

The funniest thing is that she apparently couldn’t remember that she was in favor of tax cuts. WTF!?!? This is your conservative champion? For real??

Then she tried to wipe the ink off surreptitiously! What a barrel of laughts this lady is.

But hey, if it helps you to pretend that our mocking laughter is actually outrage, knock yourself out.

And yes, PLEASE nominate this genius for president in 2012.

  83. fraught on February 8, 2010 4:35 pm

That Picture up there shows her READING the speech. Off of paper. On the lectern in front of her. The words she spoke were written down. On paper. So she could READ them.

The notes on her hand were for the questions that followed.

  84. Bugmenot on February 8, 2010 4:40 pm

“Outrage” on the left? What outrage? We aren’t outraged, we’re laughing our guts out. Your oh-so-great Thrilla from Wasilla, when asked softball questions by her most rabid supporters on her “signature” issues, needs to use a cheat sheet to keep herself on track. And just to make this even more fun, she uses the kind of cheat sheet you’d not expect to see outside of a sixth grade classroom.

So I agree with Malkin on one thing: this isn’t a controversy. It *is*, however, a very funny joke.

  85. HumboldtBlue on February 8, 2010 5:08 pm

Indeed, if mockery is the new outrage we’re going to need some new dictionaries.

What you mistake for outrage on our part is very telling, because it is the supporters of Palin, as vapid, ignorant and incurious as their queen, who are angry that once again she makes herself a laughingstock.

Do you honestly believe there is a segment of our voting public who has not yet declared their undying support for this poltroon, who will be swayed by anything she has to say or anything that she does? She’s an idiot, most reasonable, sensible people realize that. She’s just looking to get paid, and to give her credit due, she found the dupes who will pay her to appear and to speak publicly.

So beware your self-loathing and anger, and please keep it out of our party, we’re having too much fun laughing at the former half-term Governor of Alaska.

    “the outrage on the left”

I’ve been beaten to this many times above – no outrage, but plenty of ROFL-ing :-) And there wouldn’t even be much of that, except that The Half Term Princess makes such a point of lambasting the President for (gasp!) using a teleprompter.

  88. Daphne Chyprious on February 8, 2010 8:43 pm

  89. TJ Parker on February 8, 2010 10:34 pm

“Tj What you don’t understand is that we respect the office of the POTUS. Respect for the office does not require respect for its occupant.”

This is nonsensical. You have no respect for the Constitution, which describes how we elect our representatives and our president. And you have no respect for the duly elected president. Thus you have no respect for the rule of law. You’re outlaws.

Yeah, I know, you *love* thinking about yourselves as outlaws: Fat old men sitting home playing cowboy, and you all wanna play horsie with the hot simpleton lady.

Concerning the anti-Palin libs who are assured that the fringe media isn’t upset by Palin but amused by her, this week’s Joy Behar Show’s screaming from the left to drown out the lone conservative on the panel, Pamela Geller, says otherwise. They are “amused” with their one-liner, non-sequiter slams and mud-slinging until challenged by Geller, then get their panties in a knot, using school yard bullying tactics to malign Palin and silence Geller rather than produce evidence of substance.

In my book, that IS a hissy fit… read any of Andrew Sullivan’s rants or listen (if it’s possible) to Keith “I’m about to have a stroke” Olbermann when on the topic of Sarah Palin. More big-time hissy fits.
