Public Sector Unions To Lawmakers: Raise Taxes Or “we’re going to chase you”

April 21, 2010

The public sector unions of Illinois turned out a reported 15,000+ union protesters who flooded into Springfield on bus after bus. Their demand was simple enough. They want the state to raise taxes to cover the public tab.

The head of the Illinois chapter of AFSCME had this to say.

“These 177 people who have a job don’t want to do their job,” said Henry Bayer, head of the Illinois chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, referring to the number of lawmakers in the House and Senate. “Yes people are hurting, that’s why we need a tax increase….If you try to leave town without doing your job we’re going to chase you.”

Chase you? What does that mean?

If the Illinois Tea Party is worth anything, they should coordinate a rally much larger than the one produced by these unions. If the good people of Illinois can’t turn out a massive crowd to voice their opposition to increasing the tax burden during a recession, then they deserve the Californication of the state.

Sounds like the unions are making threats.
