Over the weekend, Tribune Corp’s Oscar Avila played stupid in his coverage of the Chicago Tea Party:
One year ago at a downtown Chicago tea party rally, a confrontation between a television reporter and activists crystallized the emotions surrounding the movement that so loudly opposed health care reform as an unwelcome expansion of government.
In a video widely circulated online, many at the rally felt a CNN reporter was arrogantly dismissing what they consider valid fears of runaway spending and taxes when she focused on the most inflammatory signs. Some of those signs said President Barack Obama’s policies are socialism and one alleged that he is a fascist.
But when protester Kathy Barkulis, of Deer Park, asked the reporter if she was “playing stupid,” it confirmed the image among others that the tea party movement is indeed inflaming the public debate with angry rhetoric.
Wow. That is selective stupidity, and willful ignorance. Conveniently for Oscar and his Tribune bosses, they have not yet discovered how to link to or embed video in their posts. If they were educated as to the steps necessary to show their readers the video referenced in their own article, readers would surely notice a disconnect in the characterization written above.
Let’s go to the tape:
So……..Kathy Barkulis is to blame for making Liberals think the Tea Party movement is inflammatory? Funny how Oscar failed to mention that CNN’s Susan Roesgen verbally attacked a man holding a two year old, and was subsequently released from her position at the Democrat media organ.
Oscar, do your job. Not the White House’s.
You can let Oscar know how you feel by emailing him here, Oscar Avila. As always, be civil.

Because of the town hall yelling, the birth certificate doubters and the people with tea bags hanging from their hat brims, most Americans are probably looking for someone to stand up against big government without hypocrisy and venom.
Barry Hussein is looking good next to some of these people….
The Chicago Tribune story further illustrates my position that the media is purposely mischaracterizing the Tea Party movement. How they can judge us in such a different light than protesters at G8 Summits and anti-Bush protests is an example of their bias. We are tame compared to left wing protesters. Furthermore, you can look at the police response at Tea Party protests vs. police response at left wing protests and see a marked difference in their posture. The police don’t come to Tea Party protests with hoses, riot shields, tear gas, and clubs drawn like they do at left wing protests. What dooes that tell you? The media will continue to lie and distort, just like this current administration.

My son was inches from that willfully obtuse reporter Roesgen. And Kathy, she did use the words “right-wing” in a derogatory manner but was as I said, willfully obtuse.
My son, who was 15 at the time, had asked later, “Was she really telling that guy (with the baby) that he should be grateful the government was taking his tax dollars because IL was benefiting?”
I went to the February protest, there too.
Funny enough, a reporter by the name of Andy Roesgen interviewed me. I asked him a few choice questions he couldn’t answer, and the stunned look on his face told me what puppets these people really are. They don’t think or use their heads. It made the news, but he left out my questions to him.
I’m not quitting. I swore the oath, and I live it 27 years later. To the end.
PS…in DC, the anti-war freaks were nasty, divisive and breaking the law. We left no trace and caused no trouble and I was in the fray for 14 hours. It was pretty damn awesome. And I am going to be there on Tax Day, too.
