Gabrielle Giffords’ Father: “Asked if she had any enemies, he said: “Yeah, the whole Tea Party.”"

January 10, 2011

Many of you might have seen this headline on Drudge : BRIT PAPER BLAMES 'RIGHT WING'...

But just in case you didn’t drill down into the article:

The National Jewish Democratic Council – Giffords is the first Jewish woman elected to Congress from Arizona – saw the attack as emanating from the polarised political debate: “It is fair to say – in today’s political climate, and given today’s political rhetoric – that many have contributed to the building levels of vitriol in our political discourse that have surely contributed to the atmosphere in which this event transpired.”

Giffords’s father was blunter. Asked if she had any enemies, he said: “Yeah, the whole Tea Party.”

This man is suffering. He gets a mulligan. A total pass. May he and his family find healing, and soon.

Contrary to the media vilification that the Tea Party has received over the past two years, the Tea Party has never been a physical enemy of anyone. The Tea Party, as much as it can be spoken of monolithically, is the peaceful manifestation of grass roots opposition to Socialism.

But the whole point of the Tea Party is to defeat Socialism peacefully through the framework bequeathed to us by our founders, under the Constitution -  namely the ballot box. The thesis being that our peaceful Constitution, which guarantees freedoms, is stronger than Marxist revolutionary theory, which is very violent.

The facts of the past 24 months support this, and that is but one of the reasons that it is becoming clear that the actions of Jared Loughner had nothing to do with the Tea Party, and everything to do with his own insanity.

If people on the Left would like to have a discussion about toxic political vilification, we welcome it. It should be televised. There should be hearings. The Tea Party has nothing to hide. Can the same be said about the Left?
