Rahm Emanuel Would Look Out For The Interests Of Jewish-Americans In Chicago

January 3, 2011

How classy would it be if someone like Chuck Schumer or Joe Lieberman endorsed Rahm Emanuel for mayor of Chicago with the following selling point:

Rahm Emanuel Would Look Out For The Interests Of Jewish Americans In Chicago.

The implication being that anyone other than a Jewish candidate cannot look out for the interests of the Jewish community? Or equally as bad, that a Jewish mayor will ‘deliver the goods’ for the Jewish community?

Shouldn’t he look out for everyone’s interests?

Yet that is exactly how Democrat Progressive US Representative Danny Davis described Carol Moseley Braun’s bid for Chicago Mayor.

Today, Davis introduced Braun at Meeks’ Salem Baptist Church as a “pedigreed” and logical consensus candidate who would look out for the interests of African-Americans in Chicago.

“She didn’t fall out of no Cracker Jack box,” Davis said, stressing her work for former mayor Harold Washington and as the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

The implication being that anyone other than a Black candidate cannot look out for the interests of the Black community?

Does this mean Braun will not be looking out for the interests of the Hispanic community? Or is it only Jews and Hispanics who are less capable of representing people of different ethnic backgrounds?

We’ll give Mr. Davis the benefit of the doubt that “Cracker Jack” isn’t a racist epithet, however he cannot be given the same pass when it comes to pimping the race card.
